AchillesBlog is back up!

Before the move:

After the move:

Finally AchillesBlog.com is up and running again.  Ok, not quite up fully. I am seeing some sporatic page loading issues. I’ll fix it tonight. My apologies to all the AchillesBloggers for not bringing up the site sooner.. I promise that this will never, never happen again as I’ve moved the entire site off of the cheap hosting service onto a more legitimate VPS, where I have complete control over the server.

Yes this will cost a little more money every month, but it gives me complete control, which I did not have before.

This also meant that I had to build the server from scratch.  They just give you a bare bones server with OS, and I pretty much have to build everything, migrate all data, configure all the services, etc.

I fell flat on my face several times (well, not literally) during the transition, and I think I’ve managed go get everything working..  no permanent damage, just set me back many, many days.. ugh!

Please let me know whether the website loads faster/slower, things working/not working, and email me if you see any issues: achillesblog@gmail.com

Hope everyone is recovering well!

Dennis

Noone can just turn AchillesBlog off any more!

  2. Three cheers for Dennis! I hope all will follow me to the “Make a Donation” button in the upper left of this page and the main page. BTW, I’ve already noticed that the pages are loading way faster. Thanks for all your hard work.

  3. Ultidad - thanks!

Hmm, it looks like there are a few more kinks to work out. I am seeing sporatic page loading issues. I’ll fix it tonight. Thanks for your patience.

  4. Things to fix still:
Sporatic page loading issues.. (this one is a hard one, and I may have to rebuild php, and not use the one distributed with Ubuntu)
Setup a mail system for forgotten passwords, etc. (This will take me an evening..
    thanks for your patience!

  5. Great job getting it back up. My only problem is that if not logged in all I see is a black box with the words “Anti-Spam Image” in it. I tried to reply to this post last night while I was logged in and only got a completely blank screen when I clicked “Submit Comment.” We’ll see what happens today. I was able to post to my blog which is good.

  6. It worked, it worked!!

  7. well, I still haven’t fixed the root of the problem, regarding page loading issues. It may happen every now and then.. This will probably require some serious debugging as it has to do with how php itself is built. I’ll keep you posted..

  8. Just wanted to test - Dennis, I’ve sent you an email
