Switching between boot and 2 shoes.

September 24, 2013 | |

I’m at the 9 week point post op and my PT is going well and very aggressive In my exercises, My PT therapist has told me since I’m at FWB I can go to 2shoes but only for two hours then back to the boot. Then two hours  then boot, Has anyone been cleared to FWB but try 2 shoes with time constraints?   I’m doing well at FWB in shoes around the house and doing that with 1/2 inch wedges in my sneakers.  Not much pain but being very careful not to cause problems. Thx

It’s new to me, though many of us went back and forth for a while to suit the situation — like shoes or barefoot around the house, and boot for busy scary crowded places, or bicycling, etc. bit.ly/UWOProtocol just says “wean off boot” at 8 weeks post-whatever (-op or -non-op).

I’m 8 weeks post op. My doc said to start weaning off the boot; I did PT in shoes on Monday for the first time. My PT said to wear the boot if I’m going to be walking a long distance or on my feet for a while. I’m also planning to do what Norm said: wear the boot for busy or crowded places, etc. Your protocol sounds more structured than what most people have done, but it seems to achieve the same end, and might be a good approach. Let us know how it goes!
