FWB in my 8th wk. happy but careful.

September 21, 2013 | |

Hello my recovering friends my PT and dr cleared me to reach the FWB level and early 2 shoes attempts. I’m 8 weeks now post op and was happy to go up to 75lbs  pwb.  My PT took my crutches and said walk this way, I still wear my boot but it was a challenge to walk without the crutches, It’s mainly mental and after a few steps made it across the room. I must say I have a 1/2 inch wedge in my boot and it feels weird to reach this point but I have a long road to go. It was quite funny my fear not to fall in front of my PT so I walked slow and steady. I was attempting 2 shoes as well this will be a great hurdle to jump, But I know practice and rubbing the scar area will reduce my swelling is what she said. I don’t know it’s swells when I walk but that is due to the foot movement and muscles that were stagnant. Anybody else feel weird trying to walk like you did before the injury? I even tried driving not far just enough to get a smile I went down the driveway and back up, it’s a stick shift I quickly drove it back. Let me know your feelings when you reached this point.

You sound exactly like me at the same time. I was so looking forward to PwB and FWB but when the day’s came I found it so painful and difficult to walk. Really depressing. But each day things improved. Having a shoe that matched the height of the boot helped and I concentrated really hard on each step.
Moving to 2 shoes was quite slow initially, but over the past week I really feel that I am getting somewhere. Someone here suggested really trying to make every step as close to normal and slowing down if you feel you are limping.
I am 12 ish weeks now and for the first time can see the light at the end of the long tunnel ahead. Although the recent re-rupture stories do make me shiver!
I started driving an automatic at 9 weeks and a geared car with clutch on injured side at 11 weeks. I felt fine. I think it’s quite good physio?

Well I do own a stick shift and automatic and have yet to do the stick shift yet,I have walked around the PT room and home a little with 2shoes still working on my form. I just would rather wear the boot but my foot swells after walking but ice is my best friend. I’m at the point where I see success just being careful not to cause a re injury. It’s quite interesting my PT tells me your other tendon is tight, I was like ok ill stretch this out as well. I’m being careful the stories on here provide insight it’s crazy when people are at the same level but doing more movement. So Nicky I’m going to keep pushing but not insane but my PT is aggressive. Can’t wait to get my two shoes on and walk smoother instead of like a robot! Much success in your recovery and all who read this.
