I was ‘riding’ my static bike at week 4 with boot on and didn’t use a road bike at all. If I’d wanted to, I’d have waited til about week 8 and only on the flat for a while and with a good surface. And careful which foot you put down first. Just don’t go standing on the pedals!

I’m actually going to start on the stationary bike tomorrow at my gym, now that I can drive. I remember my doctor said I could go on the stationary bike at 2 weeks! I didn’t because I had no way to get there, but the bike is really good for the healing process. Gets the blood flowing and the muscles working.

Hey Pug. I HATED not being able to ride. I was in a cast for a month (March 7 - April 10)(NO way to even do a stationary bike) and back into the AirCast boot after that. I could do the eleptical trainer with the boot on and sould do some SLOW spinning on the SB. I was 2-shoes about 6-7 weeks after surgery, but still waited until about 8 weeks before trying to go for my first road ride. That was about 5 miles just around the neighborhood and away from any real traffic. 2 weeks later I did my FIRST REAL Ride of 14 miles and have been hitting the road weekly since then. I have my first century coming up on the Maryland Eastern Shore in 3 weeks. (Like the little engine - “I think I can , I think I can…”)

That’s great Jack! I still feel unsure about driving. I tried running an errand later in the day and it required more braking which really aggravates my foot. My foot and leg swelled up and I realized my limitations and was happy to quickly make it back home safely.

I rode a bike in my boot as soon as I was comfortably FWB and thought I’d be OK making afast stop on “that” side. Worked great for me. In shoes you have to start with your foot forward, pedal under the heel. Then gradually move the foot back. Potholes and curbs were a shock for me when I was in 2 shoes with the pedal under the ball of my foot. Probably around 10 weeks post-non-op — my blog probably remembrs. (I was bicycling to post-ATR Rehab!)

I’m post op 2.5 weeks. I have the boot with a 4″ wedge. When you started riding the SB with a boot, did you have any wedges in your boot? I miss my spin class…..
