I suppose when everything is going fine your mind forgets about the things that helped… including this site…. well its been almost 5 months post ATR…. I walk without a limp …. still do physio…… I have been signed off by the doctors……. I use a wobble board…… and everthing seems ok….. I must say with the cold weather I get a pain in the injured tendon…. I assume this is normal…… I wish everyone a Happy New Year….. and thank all those folks who have chatted with me on this site……. I will try and write again when I remember…. but I am now trying to get back to normality…. with work… home etc etc

I can walk (hobble) up and down stairs (about 3 days ago)… using crutches as support and moving good leg first…… the physio has given me some ultrasound on the tendon… to encourage healing… the stretching excercises are very important…. he said do it to be uncomfortable not painful…… for a conservative all things seem good…. I find it important to ensure that I am wearing the site boots when moving outside the house or office… they have high ankle protection padding so the risk of twisting ankle is minimised……. I hope others are getting good results… its slow but in time is worth it….

The senior surgeon looked at the foot…. wants me back in 2 months…. and booked into physio asap….. (this Thursday)…. he wants me to take it easy but start to put weight on my leg … still with crutches ….. then start walking….. but no moon boot. Fornutately I took my site boots along… just it case a scenario like this could have happened. Here is a picture of my foot as it now is …… fresh from the clinic…….

My ATR happened playing tennis on 10 August ,,,,, its was a complete rupture.

I decided after been given the choice that the conservative route was the best for me…. I had no intentions of a high impact sport again….. and with the secondary issue of surgery and the hospitals record on MRI and other infections I decided that the surgery option would be the last option … if the conservative route did not work….. still early days… but

I am now at 7 weeks 2 days…. and my foot has now been recast at almost 90 degrees (85 degrees)

The surgeon wants the plaster off totally next week….. thats 8 weeks two days post ATR.

Whilst I was in the plaster room today… i met a physio therapist who happened to be visiting… he said my muscle tone looks good.

Unlike some others… I have not been sitting down all the time. I was on holiday in Cyprus for 10 days… only 5 days after ATR.

I am a self-employed architect and still needed to visit site and see clients… generally I have been out of the house 3 / 4 days a week. Moving around at the office and on site.

I have also been taking pills: “glucosamine & chondroitin ” every day, and also wiggling those toes.

I have been taking it easy when I can…. but I strongly feel that the exercising of the other parts are still important.
