partial Weight Baring
Uncategorized July 28th, 2014I have been partial weight baring for about a week now, its great its almost like new sense of freedom. I can not wait to start actually walking in the boot! My two shoe goal date is Aug 18th! I’m hoping that actually happens! I am going on vacation to universal studios the end of sept which will be about 16 weeks after surgery, how was everyones walking by this point after surgery? any issues?

If you’ve been PWB for a week, you should be FWB any day now. Making the hurdle to FWB is partly a confidence test–confidence that your injured leg will support you. An exercise that helped me here was to stand at my kitchen counter (for light support) and shift my weight side-to-side, back-and-forth, and diagonally (front left-to-rear right, and the reverse). Do this for a few days and you’ll be boot-walking in no time. If all continues to go well for you, you should be in 2-shoes and walking very well at 16 weeks. The only issue I can think of is swelling, which will likely pick-up once you become more active. Also, if your vacation involves flying, this may also induce more swelling–so be prepared to continue to RICE on vacation. Good luck! -David

Wonderful! I look forward to that stage myself. Keep up the good word and I’m sure you’ll hit your 2 shoes goal.

I went 2 shoes last week(week 11) and I’ve been back to work since week 10. No issues. Some people complain of swelling. I’ve had a little but nothing alarming. You’ll probably have a little limp and you won’t be as fast but I think you will be fine. Have fun!
