Some answers

Quick update!
I was evaluated by a different PT in my facility yesterday. She helped me so much! She had me stand, walk around, she very closely examined my foot and ankle. She noticed a very small difference in my good vs bad foot. I’m not sure on the terminology she used, but she said the area of the inside of my heel is dropping. I think she used the term valgus. She said it is very hard to notice, and no wonder I’m in pain, the more I stand with that area dropping, the more painful it gets.

Anyway, she taped me up with rigid tape to keep the area from dropping. She said the area is very inflamed! She worked on massaging the area to try to get it down. Gave me some inversion exercises to only do 3 times a week. She seemed very confident that this was the problem. She said strengthening my arch and taping should help. It seems more painful today, but that may be because she corrected the way I stand with the tape (leave it on for 3-4 days). I’m very hopeful that we’re on the right path!

  1. Valgus and varus can refer to any joint and describe the direction the joint is turning (out or in). Good pickup from the PT.

  2. Your PT seems very knowledgeable, glad you found her.

  3. Great Job from your PT :)

  4. Please let us know how it turns out Beachy…fingers crossed this is the answer and the solution!

  5. So far, it seems to be helping! I got retaped this morning, and inflammation is starting to decrease, and pain seems to be slowly easing off. They were very happy, and so am I! I asked if I could go back to work this week, and was told wait 2 more weeks, it’s finally getting better some, so they don’t want me to irritate it. They were not happy that I walked on the beach a little this past weekend…only far enough to put my chair down, then sit, and walk back after. Walking in the sand was very difficult and painful even though I was very cautious and slow. It’s been way too pretty here in FL!

  6. OMG I’m so excited for you….keeping my fingers crossed some more…I don’t blame you for wanting to go to the beach! Life must go on for us…emotional well being is so important…I say going to the beach was a small risk but worth it huh?

I’m glad you’re waiting a few more weeks to go back to work, I agree to not irritating it. Will you start exercises at PT again in a few weeks also?
