5 days post op, The Prologue

After research I felt like I’d be a great candidate for either a non-surgical option or the rather low invasive tendon surgery. Well, I was referred to a great specialist. We sat together and ran through my MRI. We did some examination. He turned to me and said, “Those are great options for some people. In your case not so much”. I was going to sign up for a Secondary Achilles Reconstruction with a turndown graft. As an added bonus I would have a transfer of the FHL Tendon.

    Hope things are good, would like to hear any updates on your recovery. 11 days post op here, hoping I can get a hold of doc an take the cast out. It feels like it’s burning inside the cast. Anyway, great post! Thanks for sharing.

    I hurt mine too pushing off during a basketball game. As I have reflected on what could have contributed to my ATR, I looked back to the years of playing baseball, basketball, and any other sport I could try my hand at. Baseball was my main sport. As a right handed pitcher, I can’t tell you how many thousands of times I must have pushed off the mound with my right foot (the same leg that I hurt) during my playing career. I’m sure that has been a major contributor to the injury I’m going through.

    Also, as I’ve gotten older, I’m not in as good of shape as I was in my earlier years, but still feel that I can go 110% like I used to. I guess as we get older we have to remember that our joints, ligaments, muscles, and tendons aren’t as strong and limber as they used to be!

    Good luck with your recovery…..I also felt that my ATR was a work in progress over some years, probably caused due to may be a variety of factors including flat feet, overuse, lack of adequate stretching, some calcification etc and there were signs along the way that were ignored…….
