I’ve been out on my own !! Hooray !!!

Well after relying on people to take me around and about for the last few months, I have done it  -  I have actually been out on my own.

Well almost……. -  My husband drove me into Manchester and dropped me off, I then proceeded to walk over our newly cobbled streets (looks nice but awful to walk on very slippy and uneven).  I only had one crutch with me as it was pouring down with rain so I needed other hand free for the umbrella.

I negotiated the cracks in the pavements, the slippy cobbled sets, crossed over several roads reaching the pedestrionised area in St Ann’s Square where my hairdressers was.  I was relieved to get inside and take a deep breath.

I did think I might ring Martin to come and pick me up but I thought no… I’ve made it this far I can go and get the bus, I managed to walk past Marks & Spencers without calling in for a cake … and carried on to the bus stop.  I could see the bus coming down the road and I thought, please stop at the traffic lights, which it did, and that allowed me just enough time to walk briskly to the stop and get the bus.

So, now I’ve been let loose there will be no stopping me now.  Look out Manchester here I come…

I feel as if I have been set free.

Congratulations Annie,

Well done opn your re-gained freedom.
I imagine that first journey out alone will always be a little nerve wracking for any of us due to the nature of the injury.

Here’s to getting back your bounce.

I admire you - in the rain, on uneven pavement and still on crutches!

Tomorrow I go to two-shoes, so I too am looking forward to something so bold as to walk around, or limp, like a normal person! I have been FWB on a walking cast for 3.5 weeks, but the distances I go and the pace itself makes the whole ordeal very limited. Even riding our Metro here (BART) was more than I bargained for: crammed on a Sunday with no seats for me, stopped in tunnels and held for no known reason; too many crowds on the platforms. So remember, although we feel like trapped little weasels, we have to get better above all else. The world ain’t going away yet!

Well did it again, minus crutches, kept them in the back of my cousins car just in case….. I actually went out last night, I had cousins over from Ireland so another cousin ….(I have too many cousins to mention - must be the Irish background)…. picked me up and drove me to my Aunts house to meet up with the girls and we had a great girlie night in, it was a really great feeling to be back in the real world again!!

Annie Im glad for you; you deserve this moment and now I see you are showing off with no crutches at all :-)
If Man City can improve as fast as you just did they will be European Champions this year :-)
Im a Liverpool fan (I still dont think they have a good enough side to challenge; what was Benitez doing “resting” half the team at a time after only 4 games last year?).
I studied in Salford and Manchester is great city; the Arndale Centre is tops and indoor ski world, theres lots on offer. Glad to see you out and about enjoying your town again.
PS. I saw Man City beat Bristol City in the cup last year; they looked slick in spurts, what happened? Did you like Erikson?

First may I say what wonderful support all you “Achilles” injured people have given my sister over these past few months. She has never been one to be distressed or depressed but these last months have taken its toll on her. As you all know she is an avid supporter of Manchester City (as most of the family are),and on Thursday we shall all be going to our (european) first match of the season.
Anne is a great person and is always the one who binds our family, and it’s extended parts, together so it is with great relief that she is on the mend. In my small way I have taken on some of the jobs but I don’t think men are as good at organising. To Martin,my brother-in-law,Alan,my nephew, and all her friends on the blog my eternal gratitude to you all for helping her through this period in her life.

John - Thank you for those kind words. Please let us know how the Manchester City’s first match went. We’d love to see some pictures too!
