Can you go on your toes?

Hi all,

I know my recovery has been longer than some, my age is aginst me, but this morning I went to physio and for the first time I went into the gym, did a few exercises then she wanted me to hold onto the wall bars and rise up on my toes, which I did 10 times.  Then she asked me to put my good foot to the side for balance only, not to put weight on it and try and rise up with my bad leg….. nothing….. absolutely nothing…. I was quite dismayed, thought I might have been able to lift the heel a little bit.

Am I a long way behind others?   It is 14 weeks since my operation now.  Did a few more exercises but could feel nothing in the bad leg from the knee down, did feel strain behind knee but that was all.  I see my Consultant next Wednesday and my physio said if I wasn’t seeing him anyway she would have asked for an early appointment.  Should I be worried.  Still have bad circulation and a lot of swelling around the ankle area.

I am going on 22 weeks and I still can’t get up on the bad foot by itself..doctor and pt says that is par for the course..but they both released me to go back to work this coming Monday so wish me luck…Kevin

Hey there! You are still young and strong! I’m sure you are healing well. In terms of taking longer to recover than usual…I know all about that…I’m 13.5 weeks post op and still PWB. How’s that for taking forever. I tell myself..and I remind you too….BE PATIENT! You are doing great and you are in AWESOME SHAPE! Soon, we’ll all be 100% again and really enjoying our mobility. Thinking of you! Kristin

20 weeks and not able to lift my bodyweight on the injured leg via the toes. It will happen!!!

Thanks for your responses, although I am a bit sad that it will take longer than I thought to be able to put weight onto toes, at least I now know I am not out of the ordinary.

Thanks all
