Heel Pain Agony Update - What my Physio said

No Gravatar

Went to see my physio this morning and she also was surprised at how swollen and blotchy/blue my leg was.  My ankle is very swollen and red and the heel pain is no better.

She decided that we should not do any stretching exercises and she concentrated on ultrasound and laser treatment on my heel to try and reduce swelling.  She is also going to send a report to my Consultant who I see on 23 July.  She asked if I normally had problems with circulation which I don’t really have - the only times I do have problems is in the very cold winter when the tips of my fingers go white, but no other problems as such.

She wants me to rest much more and go back to PWB, she also thinks my progress is quite slow so I wasn’t too happy to say the least.   I have to keep doing my normal exercises at home.   I see her again on Wednesday if I still have the same pain she said she might suggest an x-ray to see if there are any ’spurs’ in the heel.

Have just taken her advice and sat and watched the mens doubles (the oldies) and my all time favourite Henry Leconte made me laugh out loud, so that was good.  Venus has just won ladies final.

Anyone else had such pain in their heel?

Added just now:

Was just telling Nerys I had been watching a DVD which my husband and I were extras in a few years ago, it was about  Manchester City FC so I googled it and, shock horror, there on the site was a picture of me….

It isn’t a great pic but that is me top right, wearing a big grin (and glasses) to the right of Ray Winstone and Gina McKee.. The film in case anyone is interested in it was - There’s Only One Jimmy Grimble - we had a great time during the filming so it brought back happy memories and took my mind of my heel pain for a few minutes…

I am sorry to hear that you have heel pain. I hope the doctor will be able to closely examine your leg and give you a good diagnosis on what’s happening.

It might just be that your body needs more time to heal, but it’ll be good to get the doctor’s opinion and just be sure that there’s no other problems.

Keep us posted, and best wishes..

hi annieh hope your pain is subsiding ? what does your pt meen by “spurs” ??????? get lots of comedy dvd s . ive been down today so watched lee evans on you tube ……. soooooo funny . take care and rest … thats all we can do x

I googled ’spur’ and this was the answer, and what I have felt is exactly as described in the following extract:

The most common cause of heel pain is plantar fascitis which is commonly referred to as a heel spur. Plantar fascia is a broad band of fibrous tissue which runs along the bottom surface of the foot, from the heel to the toes Click here to view diagram. Plantar fascitis is a condition in which the plantar fascia is inflamed. This condition can be very painful and cause considerable amount of suffering.

Long standing inflammation causes the deposition of calcium at the point where the plantar fascia inserts into the heel. This results in the appearance of a sharp thorn like heel spur on x-ray. The heel spur is a-symtomatic (not painful), the pain arises from the inflammation of the plantar fascia. Symptoms include a dull ache which is felt most of the time with episodes of a sharp pain in the center of the heel or on the inside margin of the heel.

Hope no-one else experiences the same …

Annie, so sorry to hear of the heal pain. Maybe this can lift your spirits. Here’s a link to a new MCFC blog on TheOffside, the site where I write my blog for Hamburg:

I almost forgot. . .City play a friendly with HSV in Hamburg 26 July. I’ll be very intersted to see what the sides look like for that match. Cheers!

I love that Jimmie Grimble movie. I’ve seen it at least 3 times. I wish we could have seen the oldies play over here in Canada. But they did show us the men’s and women’s doubles final. Awesome match today though! An instant classic.

All the best with your healing. I sincerely hope you do not have any spurs. I’ve had plantar faciitis and you don’t want it. Good luck!

Thanks all for your good wishes,

Chris, have already checked out the new City site, thanks for that and…

Hoss, plantar facilitis is what my Physio said it’s real name was, if it is that, what treatment did you have for it, I have just been told so far to keep off my foot as much as possible until I see Consultant who will decide whether I need to have an x-ray.

Don’t know about Nadal and Federer but I was exhausted just watching the tennis yesterday, certainly the best tennis game I have seen for years.
