7th week heaven
Hi - just wanted to share the progress I felt during my 7th week post op. I started the week with 2 crutches putting most of my weight on the boot, but still not confidently FWB.
By the end of the week I was moving around the house without crutches - with the new found freedom of using 2 hands to carry stuff around the house and even did a bit of gardening. I’ve taken all the foam wedges out of the boot and walking around confidently outside but taking one crutch in case of tiredness. Also had a really positive Physio appointment - geting pretty close to 90 degrees and got my first exercise to start pushing down - using a ‘theraband’
So after all those weeks of tiredness, swelling and dis-comfort - I really felt that for me it was the week that things were improving.
My next consultant appointment is this Friday - 8 week post-op - and although I’m not banking on it - I’ll be taking the second shoe just in case……

Sounds like we’re close in recovery timeline. I’m 6 weeks post op, 50% WB but at 90 degrees ROM. My PT actually was going to contact my ortho to get his opinion on a being a little more agressive. Part of me wants to say bring it on, another part is terrified. Man did it feel good at PT this a.m. to put some weight on it without a boot!
Take the shoe with you! The worst he can say is “NO”. I’ll cross my fingers for ya for a “YES”!

Andrew I’m close to you recovery-wise, as is matts, erie, tennisjunkie…
I am FWB in the boot, been that way since May 28th. I take the boot off at home, no stairs or anything, and the tendon feels good but tight. I still sleep w it on though, which really blows.
I have started some light ROM exercises that Dennis has posted and that feels great. I cannot wait to get this damn boot off!!
I want to rush it real bad but then I log on here yesterday and read that dave re-ruptured his AT and I get all cautious again…what a mental mind game this injury is. i just want my doc to say “…ok, its healed, push it until you are totally fatigued…” Wishful thinking at this stage I know.
Hi guys - yep sounds like we are at similar stage - its good to compare progress.
I got the clinical all clear yesterday - i.e. it feels healed - but without a scan to confirm the small print is - there is a very small chance that internally the ends did not fuse and only time and increased pressure on it will tell.
So I’m now 2-shoes status - yippee - I don’t need to wear the boot when inside & its up to me if I want to wear it outside - so will see how it feels today I’m limping because my brain is telling my body not to put full weight on front of my left foot - so I will have to experiment and see how it goes.
I’ll post another update in a few days - best of luck.
Andrew
p.s walshie - thanks for exercise tips - I’ll check out.
Also - have you tried taking the boot off at night - first night I had the boot - my foot got so hot it nearly exploded- so took it off & was absolutely fine - I just kept boot by bedside and put it on as soon as I got out of bed.
