4 month anniversary

April 2, 2016 | |

4 months out and boy has this surgery taught me alot about patience! I’m up to 4 miles of running. I’m doing it every other day as I’m pretty sore the next day. Seeing my PT once a week and I do the strengthening and flexibility work on my own daily. Still can’t do single leg calf raise on the repaired Achilles but its getting stronger daily. Have to stop a couple times during my runs to stretch it out some too. Slowly my speed and confidence in it is coming back! Onward and upward!

    Nice work Amag3232!

I am 4 months too - Surgery on Dec 4

I am amazed you are running 4 miles every other day already! I feel I have been pretty aggressive but am still not running yet. It might be a lack of calf strength but I still have a slight walking limp and running would be too hard on the back and hip. I am cycling pretty aggressively with some heavy gears and sprints.

If you don’t mind me asking, what kind of exercises are you doing?

    Keep up the great work!

    Kevin

Hey Kevin. At this point I’m doing a lot of calf raises, eccentric calf raises, tons of hip strengthening and glute medius work. Still can’t do single leg calf raise on repaired one but since I run more on heel/mid foot I can manage. My pace is around 10′30 per mile as opposed to my pre surgery pace of 7-8per on easy runs. Not gonna really go above 6 miles till I can run absolutely pain free and post run soreness free.

Good job, keep up the hard work!!! The single calf raise will come eventually, don’t worry about it.
