6 Months update
Hurrah its exactly 6 months today since my surgery. I happened to have a party last night and I am delighted to report I jived for about an hour, under normal circumstances I would not sit down all evening if dancing, but I am delighted with this progress. I have also been to a few dance classes but I am still very cautious.
My calf muscle is still not quite back to normal. I still get pain and swelling. I still have to stretch regularly and I cannot get away without it. I still don’t have a brilliant single heel raise. I still have plantar fasciitis on the left. I don’t go climbing regularly right now (I need a break from potential injuries) but my aim is to slowly get back into climbing and mountaineering. I love cycling and thanks to this injury I am a much more confident cyclist and have done more than I would have dreamed I could do pre op.
My greatest wish is to get back to the Lake District and experience the simple pleasures of hill walking again. I have not been able to go back so far. Up until now I couldn’t bear to look at the hills and not walk up them (I was advised not to do it for 6 months post surgery). Its time to plan a trip back to the Lakes.
Best wishes to everyone for continued healing. I do feel for you if you are injured during these winter months. It was hard enough walking in the winter last year before my op. It wasn’t fun walking with the boot in the cold and wet weather. I’m grateful I eventually had my surgery in the summer. Hang in there, I thought I would never walk again at times, recovery is slow but there is hope in the end.
