1st trip to orthapedic department. 2 days after ATR
Got the call to go into the hospital and discuss options.
Sat waiting for ages and was then told that the local NHS (national health service) no longer offer surgery for ATRs’. As mine was a 5mm gap which closed up with the toes pointing downwards, the docs advised non surgical anyway.
I was fitted with a Vaco-Ped boot in the -30 degree foot position and sent on my way, and to wait for the next appointment.
Hi Adam,
seems like surgery is falling out of favour a little bit, good luck with the healing up!

I reckon you got the best boot around. I had to buy mine. Conservative treatment is fine. Boot is adjustable and gives option of range of movement which is really nice later on when walking - allows a more normal gait particularly with the special achilles heal. You might want to use a heel raise in your good shoe to avoid the limp as leg with boot is longer. I wore walking boots and 2 x 12mm heel raises to help at first.
Its the physio and rehab that really matter!
