First full day in two shoes!

February 27th, 2017

So I spent most of yesterday in two shoes! I can only wear one pair and those are my Adidas sequence boost athletic shoes. It went pretty well most of the day. I didn’t have to walk a lot, but I did end up with a little bit of ache in my calf and ankle so I went back into the boot in the early evening. I’m thinking about asking about an ankle brace and heel lifts when I see my doctor this week. All in all, it’s not bad being in two shoes, but it isn’t great either. Its challenging to walk and I worry about over doing it, but I guess that’s part of the process. I wore two shoes to work today and brought my boot with me. The hardest part is walking from my car to the elevators to get to my office. That is the longest walk ever. I also try to keep moving throughout the day since this blood clot situation so walking the hallways for my circulation was quite challenging as well. Swelling on my ankle is minimal though. Just another day in the sage that is ATR repair recovery!

Massive congratulations! “one small step for man…. one giant leap for an ATR sufferer” i have been in two shoes for 10 days now and it does get easier and i would say that if i can control my speed i can almost walk with out a limp… but then nobody wants to walk that slow! i also found that i had less heel pain when i wore a pair of wedge boots rather than my trainers… but the boots aggravate my other AT… I have also found that swelling is much worse out of the boot than in the boot so having not really had to RICE i tend to find i do now. Also had a little incident today had to do an emergency run after my toddler who decided to make haste across a road. I am glad that my maternal instinct kicked in above self preservation but i am a bit scared that i have done some damage to my healing AT… so the moral of this is even if it does get easier to walk always take it easy! I am also sorry to read you had a clot…. i had to inject myself with clexane for 6 weeks to avoid this - i grumbled A LOT as my tummy looked like a purple pin cushion after while but i am glad that it is NHS standard procedure. Wishing you a speedy recovery and i hope the two shoes continues to get easier.

Hehe same for me Smillea. Pain and swelling only really started since losing the boot and like you I can walk OK slow, I just can’t bring myself to walk that slow!

NHS had me inject myself for 10 days with tinzaparin which I guess is a different brand of the same thing. After a while I found the main thing that stopped bruising was to pull the needle out nice and quick at the end rather than trying to slowly withdraw it. I took an aspirin a day for a couple of weeks after that as well just in case.

It’s so good to know that this snails pace is not unique to me. Funny story. I went to my dad’s office last night to have my taxes done and I told him I was going to target afterward. He quickly reminded me that I can’t run if anyone or anything gets after me and warned me to not run my errands at night. I kind of laughed but it made total sense. Isn’t it funny how we just think we can take off at our normal paces and do our normal things until our bodies, and our dads, remind us that we can’t! Lol!

One of my things is pelican crossings (I think called crosswalks in the US?). It’s normal here not to wait for the green man and just work out when the gaps are by watching the traffic lights and cars.

Since the injury I’m standing there like a melon waiting for the green man whilst everyone else is passing by. When it’s a diagonal over a crossroad it takes ages as I have to wait for 2 green men!

LOL! Yes they are called crosswalks and our little men are white. That’s so funny. People usually just walk here too, but I have definitely been waiting for the little man to tell me its safe to go these days! The other funny thing is getting into the elevator (I think it’s a lift in the UK) before the doors close. Yesterday I had to tell a gentlemen to go ahead and grab the doors rather than wait for me to get on because the doors would surely close before I got there! LOL!

A very nice blog, I like the way you share very honestly and interestingly, through my blog I learned a lot of things.
