3 months post op
It has been a very long time since I have posted! This site was a great security blanket when I had first injured myself and I had lots of time to sit at my computer. Now it is back to the daily grind… with a limp. I had a little set back a few weeks ago. Sort of a big set back, really. Long story short, about 2 weeks ago my leg started swelling up and getting really, really painful. It turns out I have 2 blood clots in my lower leg from the injury. No one seems sure how long they have been there, but they definitely hampered my recovery. Now I am on blood thinners and am back on the road to recovery. I did my PT for the most part except there were a few weeks when my leg kept hurting so I kept “resting” thinking the pain was caused by my over exerting myself…
I am curious. Does anyone else who is around 3 months still have a pretty good limp? I still cannot walk up the stairs without turning out my foot a bit and I can walk/limp pretty well but I am not speedy.
Just curious!
I hope everyone is staying warm and dry. I am in San Francisco and we are having the most incredible amount of rain I have seen in a while. Evidently Tahoe is going to get 10 feet of snow this week! Boy do I wish I could ski!
On that note, I must say that this injury has slowed me down in some good ways, too. I am enjoying more quality time at home with my kids. We used to always be out and about but after 9 weeks of not driving, we got pretty used to chilling at home and we really enjoy it! Nice to have some silver linings…
Cheers,
Catherine

Hey Catherine
I am about 11 weeks post op and some days my limp is worse than others. Generally I am ok going upstairs, but coming down is still bad foot forward with each step. Some mornings I am really stiff and limp more, and certainly by the end of the day it’s a little more pronounced, when I am tired, and the heel hurts more.
I am not speedy either, not by any stretch of the imagination! But who cares, as you say, it’s nice to cut the pace for a bit.
Good luck with your recovery from the clots, yuk. Sounds like you are doing all the right stuff though.
Hi Catherine,
I reached the three month mark last week and yes, I still walk with quite a limp. The last few days it’s been a little better, but generally, it’s pretty obvious. I’ve quite a few colleagues who ask: ‘you’re still limping!?! Does it hurt?’ And no, it doesn’t.. it’s because, of course, of the reduced power in the calf.
I’m getting there, and you’ll get there. I also struggle going downstairs; upstairs much easier. Some evenings the ankle area looks fine, others it’s swollen and I need to treat it. But I’d say, based on my experience, what’s you’re going through at this stage is normal enough.
I thought I was the only one who had to listen to the “your still limping?!?” comments. I’m just over 12 weeks post op and I still limp quite a bit. I have my first PT appointment today (long story). I still have a pronounced limp, although I am getting better at stairs. The one thing I can’t seem to get better at is going up and down bleachers. I don’t have enough muscle in my calf to propel my body that far! I’m hoping the pt will speed things along a bit- although I don’t think I’m that far off track.
