had my surgery today
October 20th, 2009
Hello. I just had my surgery today on my right ankle. I am not in too much pain but am flabbergasted that this happened to me! It is the fact that I have 3 young kids (my youngest is 17month) and I cannot drive let alone really get around the house. I have seen this Knee crutch and am wondering if anyone has tried one that they recommend?

I am 3 weeks post op and a friend who has recovered from a shattered ankle suggested a knee crutch. It has really helped me by: 1 providing a free hand (I can carry my own coffee cup!), 2 stability for shaky trips- like in the middle of the night or when you’re generally exhausted, 3 relaxing standing position for doing stuff- face washing, toothbrushing, sandwich making… you get the picture. I don’t have the one with wheels- many stairs in my house. It’s slow for walking- I use reg. crutches to cover ground (have gotten quite speedy) but it really serves a purpose in helping me function.

I would 100% recommend the knee scooter. Being able to use both your hands is a huge plus over the crutches.
My only advice would be to not carry the little ones over changing surfaces as a couple of times the scooter got stuck and I kept going.
