Almost 4 weeks post op

Posted on July 2nd, 2013 in Uncategorized by 1shann

Hi folks!

Just wanted t o give a little update. Must say, I have felt a bit sheepish about posting because it seems like my ortho has a very conservative and slow approach. I would have loved to have cast a larger net when seeking treatment but it all happened so fast and I live in a very rural area with little public transport. It would have been impossible for me to get treatment at a larger hospital. That aside, I have actually been feeling very well for the past few days. By very well, I mean no emotional tsunamis and even extended periods of smiling.

Today I got my 4th cast. They have each been pointed at a different angle. The last 2 have been very petite and light. I am stil NWB but I can keep my foot down for much longer periods now  (by down I mean not dramatically elevated for days on end :) ) and am finally starting to feel at least a little normal again. I can get in and out of the tub and my arms and core are starting to get noticeably stronger. Next week I will get casted once more and will get to begin PWB in the last cast and will finally get the boot the following week.

I would also like to thank you all for sharing your stories. This injury has impacted every corner of my life and reading your stories and seeing  the support and feedback has really lightened the load.

No need to feel sheepish–my Dr is conservative too. I’m not following the UWO protocol but I’m making the best of the protocol that I’m on (and you will too.) Your mental health sounds excellent–glad that you are starting to feel back to normal. NWB is challenging to say the least! There were times when I thought I was going to lose my mind! Keep on healing :)

Good news that you are approaching PWB, you need to prepare yourself for the sight of your long lost friend! I’ve heard it described as a hairy stick after a decent time in plaster (people on here know all the best adjectives!). Be sure to take some photos so you can compare, just to prove to yourself that the calf is getting bigger once you can exercise it. Not long now!

    Thanks, Folks :)
They let me wash me scrawny little leg this week! I also finally got a closer look at the incision and was able to give it all a little rubdown. It was nice to reconnect with my foot for a few moments. It felt very odd and unfamiliar and I cannot wait to get reacquainted :)

An idle youth, a needy age.
