Looks like it happened to me too.

6 weeks post-op…2 shoes!

Posted by 123tech in Uncategorized

Well it’s been 6 weeks since my surgery, and over the last two weeks, I’ve been walking in a boot, putting 100% of my body weight on it, and still using the crutches.  My orthopedic told me that at my next appointment, if all looks well, I could very well be back to wearing 2 shoes, so I was really hoping for this.  Thus I met with the orthopedic, he had me remove the boot, and try to walk….I took about 10 steps, definitely the ankle is really tight.  I pretty much planting my foot flat-footed as I walked, and I can’t really roll of my toes.  However, the orthopedic was happy with how everything look, and proceeded to tell me that I can ditch the walking boot and crutches, and start wearing 2 shoes again.  I do have PT, which will begin in 3 days, at 2-3 times a week.

I must admit though, as happy as I was to be back to wearing 2 shoes again, it was also a little depressing to feel like I’m moving around as I almost did when I first ruptured my Achilles.  I guess I got pretty good with the crutches, I was able to move pretty quickly, and now it’s 1 step at a time.  However, I look forward to the next month, hopefully I’ll be walking well again.

Good luck everyone!

I’ll be seeing my orthopedic next week. It’ll be 6 weeks post surgery at that time. Been walking with a boot w/out crutches for 2 weeks now. Dr. told me I’d be starting physical therapy at 6 weeks. It scares me a little to think I may be w/out the support of the boot soon, but I’m looking forward to wearing real shoes too.

6 weeks and you’ve been weight bearing since week 4? How is that possible? I’m 6 weeks and just got my cast off and into boot with no weight bearing till Week 8 Dr. told me. Is it because my tear is more severe? Or is it just that your dr. is more agreesive than mine? PLEASE HELP ME TO UNDERSTAND. Thanks. Eric.

    Hi Eric,
To be honest Eric, I thought my doctor was aggressive at first, but then I’ve read a few postings on this site where others were on the same track as myself. But yes, 2 weeks after surgery, I was instructed that I can but partial weight on the leg, and 4 weeks after surgery I could put as much as I could deal with, which was 100%. However, the first few days back to 2 shoes was tough, my ankle was very tight, but PT has been great! I definitely like how the recovery process is coming along, and in 2 weeks (3 months after surgery), my physical therapist will start doing some resistance exercises with me. I’m walking with a slight limp, but no pain, but I definitely can’t go on my tippy toes just yet.
Good luck with your recovery process!
